Treasurer’s Report Jana Shea reported on the end of the fiscal year finances.  “Praise God!  We ended the year in the black by over $2,000!  Receipts for the year totaled $688,948, while expenses totaled $686,106, well under our budget of $714,823.  We are so thankful for the people who gave sacrificially and generously, as unto the Lord!  The annual meeting went well, as did the detailed budget discussion held the following Wednesday.  Our efforts to be open and available for questions have been appreciated and we are helped by the input and insight of others as well.  The capital campaign continues to make good progress, and the mortgage balance at year end was about $124,000.  Let's continue to make the finances of First Church a matter of prayer and personal commitment.”

Facilities and Operations Bill Goodrick reported that the major repair list for the coming year will exceed the $35,000 in the budget.  The trustees are investigating ideas to generate funds to assist in accomplishing the maintenance projects.  Pastor Shelly and several volunteers will be repainting the classrooms and hallway on the second floor of the education wing.

The trustees have divided into teams focusing on specific duties within their scope:  facilities – Bill Goodrick and Jan Hoogstad; finances – Jana Shea and Wayne Kalbfleisch; bus and van – Kevin Winans and Bill Goodrick; Safety – Kevin Winans. Pastor Clyde will continue to work with the trustees.  The fund raising policy was discussed and approved by the board.

Worship and Fine ArtsPastor Gary discussed the Easter services and shared how he works with his vision team and it importance.

Children’s Ministry Pastor Shelly reported that she and the two paid nursery workers successfully completed an all-day CPR/First Aid class led by paramedic Marcy Morrison.  Vacation Bible School dates have been changed to June 23-27 due to the lengthening of the school year by local districts.  Keith Dooley and the quiz team will be competing in Deer Park Church of the Nazarene on March 29.  Registrations are continuing to arrive for the All Star Preschool.

Youth Ministry – Rusty Roth reported for the youth department.  He shared that 17 youth worked at the St. Margaret’s Charity one evening recently.  The youth department will participate in the 30-hour Famine sponsored by World Vision April 25-26.

Missions Committee Jeff Shea reported that the Easter offering will be for world evangelism.  The Missions Convention will be in Kennewick on April 11.  He has arranged for a local mission’s project on Saturday, May 31.  Details will be announced later.

New Business/Discussion

  • Pastor Clyde introduced Minister-in-Training, Lawrence Bostwick.  Larry shared his testimony with the board indicating that he had always attended church, but it was not until he was an adult that he accepted Christ as his personal savior.  He indicated that he is continuing his pastoral training through Northwest Nazarene University and desires to be assigned to First Church.   The board approved that his license be at First Church, role code: unassigned.
  • Pastor Clyde led the board members through the “Nazarene Church Board Covenant” and asked each to sign it.  The yearly covenants are kept in the church files.  Pastor Clyde welcomed new board member Mark Fletcher and returning members Wayne Kalbfleisch, Bill Goodrick and Roger Long.
  • Roger Long led a discussion about church board members’ responsibilities and how board members can be more actively engaged in ministries and more supportive of the pastoral staff.
